Steve Thunder, BSE
Acoustical Engineer & Assistive Listening Expert
Steve has a bachelor’s degree in acoustical engineering from Purdue University and is the President and Founder of Thunder Hearing & Sound (formerly Assistive Hearing Systems, LLC), a company that designs, engineers, and installs hearing loop systems. He has designed and installed over 400 hearing loop systems ranging from small house of worship systems to large theater installations, to multi-room university projects. Having previously worked at Listen Technologies (a manufacturer of assistive listening products for the pro-audio-visual market), Steve is also an expert in all types of public assistive listening. He is also an experienced speaker having lectured for small groups, graduate-level courses, and national conferences. In his spare time, Steve is the audio engineer for the Cochlear Microphonics rock band, whose members include audiologists and hearing-related professionals.
Tom Thunder is an audiologist and board-certified acoustical engineer. After obtaining his master’s degree, he completed post-graduate training in acoustics at the Illinois Institute of Technology and then later obtained his doctoral degree in audiology from Salus University. As a former adjunct faculty member at Rush University, Northern Illinois University, and Salus University, Tom taught courses in acoustics, psychoacoustics, hearing science, and hearing conservation. Tom served on the Board of Trustees for the AAA Foundation and is a member of the National Hearing Conservation Association and the Acoustical Society of America. He is a past-president of the Illinois Academy of Audiology and the Chicago Regional Chapter of the Acoustical Society. He lectures widely on topics ranging from forensic audiology to environmental noise, to hearing loss prevention, to hearing loop technology.

Megan has a bachelor’s degree in Health Promotion from Purdue University. Before joining Thunder Hearing & Sound, LLC she developed a strong background in customer relations, sales fulfilment and project coordination from various channels. She furthered her skills in the AV world as a branch coordinator, inside sales associate and service coordinator. As our head of operations and sales assistant, she is the perfect fit to understand our client’s needs.

Dr. Lisa Gumina assists with our post-installation onsite trainings. She is a practicing Licensed Audiologist with 25 years of experience in the Hearing Healthcare Industry and is Board Certified in Audiology. Most of her career was spent in patient care throughout the western suburbs of Chicago. Dr. Gumina is a Fellow member of The American Academy of Audiology, an active member of the Academy of Doctors in Audiology, The American Speech Language and Hearing Association, and the Illinois Academy of Audiology.
Dr. Gumina has served on the Illinois Academy board and various committees for several years. Dr. Gumina holds a Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology through the American Speech Language and Hearing Association. Dr. Gumina is Dementia Certified and holds a Certificate in communication, activities of daily living, end of life support, combative behaviors, and understanding the brain. Dr. Gumina is a musician and an active educator in hearing conservation. Dr. Gumina enjoys spending time with her family and four children, she teaches Sunday school and leads a children’s choir in her church.
